Lesson 1 (cont)

"Product Selection "

"Nothing Is Going To Happen If You Don't Take Action!!!"

Step 2: Product Hunting

The best place to start for beginners would be Clickbank. They have over 10 000 products to choose from and they are paying you twice a month, depending on the hold you specified on your account. Go to Clickbank market place and start a search for all the products related to your niche.

Look for something that pays a descent commission and has a high conversion ratio. Remember, it will take as much work to promote a product that pays you $5 than if you were to promote a product that pays you $30 commission. You still need to promote your site in both cases.

I usually don't promote anything that pays less than $27 per sale. It's up to you to decide how much you want. Remember that it will take as much work to promote a product that will pay you $5 commission than a product that pays you $45 commission per sale!

For example, do a search for gardening and have a look at the results. Look for a high payout and high conversion rate. Also look out for the Ref field (Just under the site description. It gives you an idea of the number sales that were made by affiliates. (people just like you).

If it is a high number, you’ll know that the other affiliates are making money from this product and that you should be able to do the same! If other people can sell this then there should be no reason why you can't be successful with the same product. There are other views on this but that is something to consider for more experienced marketers.

Also don't discard the products listed further down the page or even on the other results pages. There are numerous reasons why other products doen't sell as well as the top 3 products for you chosen category. Look at the results and go to the sales pages of the products that interest you most. Look closely at the sales page and try and think as if you were looking for a product to buy.

If you think you might buy the product from reading the sales letter then it's good to promote it. If you don't think you would buy that product then why would your customers buy this?

Make sure the product you choose appeals to you. It will be easier for you to sell something that you believe in.

In the unlikely event that you can not find suitable product on Clickbank then head over to Commission Junction and do a search for the niche. Your goal is to find 3 products.

You will also see some stats (better than Clickbank) of the product sales. I prefer Clickbank as a starting point because it’s easier to setup your affiliate links. Clickbank also pays twice per month!

When looking for a product to sell at Commission Junction, you will find the frequently used term: EPC It means Earnings per Click. This figure tells you how much commission the affiliates are earning for each 100 people they send to the sales page! Commission Junction lists EPC figures for all their merchants.

An example: If a CJ merchant has an EPC of $30, then it meants that you could expect to earn $30 for every hundred (targeted) people that you sent to that sales letter.
That means if you send this merchant 100 targeted people per day, you can expect to earn $900 per month, that is over $10 000 a year.

If there's nothing that interests you CJ then go to PayDotCom and do a search for your niche.

You can also use other affiliate websites like LinkShare and BeFree. It's up to you. Just find 3 products that you want to promote.

*** Side Note ***
- Get 3 high paying products (commission 50% + but also make sure to check out the commission amount! I don’t want to promote something for 75% commission, but the commission is only 2$, unless the product has a REALLY high conversion rate. (Rare to find) I usually look for a commission of $20 or more. This is just a guideline. Make your own decision as to how much you think you are worth. Remember, this is YOUR business and you are the boss.

- Go to all 3 sites and look at the sales page. If you like them and think you might buy from that site check to see if they have an affiliate link somewhere on the sales page, usually at the bottom, called Affiliates or Affiliate Program. Click on that link because most of the times the product owner will have some promotion tools you can use on your site like graphics / add text etc. I don’t use the standard ad text that the product owner gives you because I want my ad to be different than all the other ads.

The other option would be to look for what people are searching for and then to find a product to sell to them.
