Lesson 1 (cont)

"Keyword Research"

"Nothing Is Going To Happen If You Don't Take Action!!!"

Step 3:

Keyword Research

Time to use your keyword tools. Keyword research is not hard work, but it is time consuming! Be careful here! It is so easy to get distracted when doing keyword research. Remember to stay focussed when doing your keyword research, Open your "scratch" document you have created in the first step and make a note of other potential niche markets that you want to research for your next website project and stay focussed on your current website project.

Open your keyword research, excel spreadsheet. (You have downloaded it together with the sample doucuments) (I have included some of the words I discovered for beef recipes just to give you an idea of what the sheet will look like with some data in it. You can delete this)

Open your firefox browser (or use your good keywords tool) and go to WordTracker's free keyword syggestion tool and "garden" (without the quotes).

Also make use of Google's own keyword tool. This is a great free keyword tool and most of the paid keyword tools are getting their data from here.

Have a look at the results. These are the daily searches for your search term. This number excludes the number of Google searches. (some experts recon you can multiply this number with 4 to get the google search numbers. - I just use it as is. )

Side Note:
- A way to increase your keyword list is to add "ing" at the end of your keyword if possible. In my example I could search for "garden" and "gardening". This would almost always double your keyword list!

Select a keyword phrase (containing 2 or more words) from the list and open your FireFox browser.

Go to Google and type your keyword search phrase with quotes like this:
"flower garden"

The results you are getting from word-tracker’s free keyword suggestion tool are the daily searches. The results from google (keyword in quotes) are the optimized pages for that keyword.

Now have a look at the optimized results.
You are looking for a keyword phrase that has a fairly high number of word tracker results, but have low optimized page results from google. Sounds impossible?

Trust me, there are lots of keywords like this. (Look at the sample data in the
keyword research spreadsheet that you have downloaded)

Now start entering your data into the spreadsheet. Note that you only have to enter the number of daily searches (from good keywords / word tracker) and the number of optimized google results. The spreadsheet will calculate the monthly and factor columns for you.
The last column is just a notification for yourself once you have created an article page for that specific keyword. More about articles and their purpose later in this course.

If google returns a high number then you should consider moving on to your next keyword. Remember, you are trying to find a keyword with a high search count and low results. I usually choose a keyword phrase that has no more than 10 000 google results. Usually they have word-tracker results of between 0 and 3000 daily searches.

Next keyword to try is: "garden tip"
Do this until you have 10 keyword phrases with a high search count and low optimized Google results. Save these 10 keyword phrases in a document.
You might as well create a keyword list of not less than 60 phrases, since you are busy with keyword research now. You are going to need all 60 keywords phrases, towards the end on this step by step guide.

You might think this is a lot of work, but unfortunately, it is something you have to do.

Side Note:
This is tedious and time consuming. There are products on the market that will save you from doing this manually.

One such product is Keyword Elite. This is the flagship of keyword tools and I highly recommend that you take a look at all the features of Keyword Elite. It has too many features to list on this page.

The other product that I will recommend without a doubt is Micro Niche Finder. It will save you lots of manual keyword research. Click here to see what this tool can offer you.

I have both these tools and I use them on a daily basis for my affiliate websites and my adsense earnings. These are of those "must have" tools in any niche marketer’s arsenal of tools!

This step-by-step plan is how I got started and I did not make use of any paid tools / services in the beginning. It is definitely possible to create a profitable site with the free tools available, even if it is going to take you a little while longer. Even so, if you can afford some extra cash, then get yourself a copy of Keyword Elite and Micro Niche Finder.

Side Note:
One great way of finding what people are looking for is to use good keywords and do some research for one of the following:

- how to
- get rid of
- help
- information on
- finding
- about
- purchase
- buy
- solve
- problem

Look at it this way: If someone search for : "how to get rid of flea" and you have a guide / manual / tips on how to get rid of flea, then that visitor is very likely to buy your product, if you have a good sale page.

Side Note:
- A way to increase your keyword list is to add "ing" at the end of your keyword if possible. In my example I could search for "garden" and "gardening". This would almost always double your keyword list!

Here’s another way of finding hot niche markets:
Look for the current trend in the market. Here are some free online tools to help you with this task.

Start of with Google by going here: http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html
This tool will show you the top search terms in Google. Go through this list and see if there's anything that interest you and start doing keyword research on that topic.

http://buzz.yahoo.com
This tool will show you the top search terms in Yahoo. Go through this list and see if there's anything that interest you and start doing keyword research on that topic.

http://www.auctionkeyword.com/
This tool will show you the top search terms from Ebay. Go through this list and see if there's anything that interest you and start doing keyword research on that topic.

OK, back to your selection...
No matter which way you decide to go (find a product first or getting keywords first) you need to get 3 products that you want to promote and you need to do your keyword research

For example, if I want to get into the gardening niche, I would search for 3 products related to gardening which have a high gravity rate and a high "reff." figure at Clickbank. With CJ I’ll be looking at a high monthly EPC figure.

Now make a folder under your "Products" folder with the name of you chosen niche. I would create a folder called "Gardening".
Under the gardening folder, create 3 folders, called "Product1", "Product2", and "Product3".

Open the sales page of your chosen 3 products and save it to your Products folder. ? Save product 1 to Product1 folder. Also, if it’s a Clickbank product, open the "Create Hoplink" page from the Clickbank market place and enter your Clickbank affiliate ID (nickname) in the box to get your unique promotion link. Use this link on your web site / emails to send people to the sales page. Save each hoplink page to product folder.

Homework:

  1. Create your online accounts!
  2. Create your folder structure!
  3. Download your free software!
  4. Do your keyword research! (VERY IMPORTANT!) You will need a keyword list for your next lesson

"Nothing Is Going To Happen If You Don't Take Action!!!"

What's in your next lesson:

  • How to Choose and Register your domain
  • Where to get your site hosted (free, with no ugly 3rd party ads or cheap hosting! - I use the free method most of the time with great success.)
  • Create your squeeze page (you'll get a free squeeze page generator)
  • Create content for your new site for free, even if you can't write

"Nothing Is Going To Happen If You Don't Take Action!!!"

Stay focussed! Go and do your homework before reading Lesson 2!

"Nothing Is Going To Happen If You Don't Take Action!!!"

Here's your chance to earn what you are worth. The more work you put into your online business, the more money you'll earn!
